Child and Student Protection at AIS
Safeguarding our students is at the heart of our school and includes:
- Ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care.
- Preventing harm to children’s health and development.
- Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment.
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Child protection is a priority for the UAE and a Child’s Right Law was implemented in June 2016. Child protection in the UAE includes physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, repeated maltreatment, grooming and sexual exploitation, human trafficking and exploitation by groups that teach fanaticism or hatred. UAE law requires all schools to pass on information that gives rise to a concern about a child’s welfare.
Safer recruitment
All our staff are carefully employed with our children’s safety at heart. All staff submit an appropriate police check. Our staff involved in the recruitment process have will ask specific questions related to child protection during the interview. Two references are also requested, one of which is from the previous employer.
At AIS, we also provide mandatory Child and Student Protection training for all our staff, including our support staff (which might be translated to ensure full understanding).
Finally, our Child and Student Protection policy makes it mandatory to report any concern regarding a staff member to our Designated Child Protection Team.
Our Designated Child Protection Team
Victoria McLuckie, Director of Wellbeing, is our Designated Child Protection Officer.
Steve McLuckie, Executive Principal, Brooke Pickett Gavin, Head of Schol (Primary), and Dr Emma Campbell, Psychologist, are our Deputy Designated Child Protection Leads.
